Tarot of the Fairies

A gorgeous and unique Fairy tarot, not British Fairy tarot, but a more universal variety represented in art with an anime twist. The Fairy Tarot is a well thought-out and lovingly designed tarot set for readers of all ages – and a beautiful playful deck filled with its own unique magic.

If you’ve developed a taste for better graphic novels, this deck doesn’t disappoint. The colors appear to be airbrushed in soft, rich hues. The back of the card is lavender plum. Many of the main characters in each scene appear to be in a twilight or nocturnal background, or in light-toned skies.

If you like Asian graphic novels, you would prefer this coloring in the Shojo, the slightly more reflective style of Japanese anime. I see details in Fey that remind me of Asian anime, although Fey’s characters are not traceable to any culture or time period.

At first, I thought this tarot would be a happy choice to share with my grandchildren who grew up on Pokemon and Totoro. Some of the cards, such as the Five of Pentacles, have a funny Pikachu-style character with glowing eyes peering wistfully at a window. But after a comment from Riccardo Minetti (the author of the deck), I don’t think this is an anime for younger children. I find it more accurate to say that this tarot is suitable for a more adult audience who might come close to fairytale characters with many human expressions.

The minors in this deck are also original. Each dress has a mix of colors that portray a feeling or mood. Each pictorial scene does not have the usual arrangement of pips. For example, all lesser cup cards have a decorative cup somewhere in the scene, but you have to look at the title and number printed on the card to figure out what number of pips you have chosen.
